Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani

26th January. Today is India's republic day. Living in the USA for the time being, it is just like any other day. No 'tiranga' flags, except in Indian grocery stores, no march of cadets, no 'jilebi' as it is commonly sold on this day in India and no holiday.
I was driving to work today and there was this song played on local asian radio:
'Mera Joota Hai Japani Yeh Patloon EnglishtaniSar Pe Laal Topi Roosi Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani'

That got me thinking. I was wearing Adidas shoes that were made in Philipines, driving Volkswagen Jetta that was assembled in Mexico with parts from Germany, the shirt I was wearing was made in Indonesia, the watch probably made in China and trouser made in USA.
But when I heard this song, I felt a strange sense of pride and happiness. My favorite 'tiranga' flurred upon my inward eyes and I felt as if I heard India's national anthem 'Jana gana mana'.

At that moment, I felt: 'Yes, yeh dil hai hindusthani' [my heart is Indian].
I realized how much I miss being away from India and wondered why am I still here -- what am I doing and what I really want to do. I hope this sense is inversely proortinal to the number of years you have lived away from India.

Oh.. how much I miss my dear India.
